Astronomical Spectroscopy

The KMOS multi-object near-infrared integral field spectrograph mounted on the 8.2-metre UT1 Very Large telescope at the European Southern Observatory in Chile.

CfAI has a long history in the development of facility-class instrumentation for use in ground and space based astronomy and has specialised in the development of integral field spectrographs and multi-object spectrographs. In addition we are now exploring the use of photonics technologies to increase the power of astronomical spectrographs and extending the use of these technologies into new areas of medical imaging and Earth observation.
